The Post Christmas Break Angst

Teachers and students frequently have more in common than either may suspect. I doubt either is excited about tomorrow’s return to school.
I’ve spent my time off reading, relaxing and enjoying my creativity. I’ve read several books while curled up by the fire, occasionally admiring my tree, which I will miss when it goes for recycling. The book I enjoyed most was an early Jodi Picoult, “Harvesting the Heart”.
I also searched for shadow boxes I had bought last summer. I had decided I wanted to display some of my favorite shells from my beach walks in Cape Breton. I now have a large crab shell, with the most exquisite detailing evident on the shell, ready for display. I mounted the “orangey” pink shell on heavy black card stock paper. My other creation is three clam shells, of various sizes (they used to nest perfectly), on a burlap background.
I am thinking it would be fun to put some of my favorite beach glass and pottery into a shadow box. I see a beach theme developing. It’s probably my response to the damp, cold and snowy weather we’re experiencing.
So, back to “back to school”. It’s going to happen. Tomorrow. I am glad we have two days to re-adjust and then the weekend to recover. It feels a long time until March Break.
